When is the best time to refer for a dream?

Dreamers and their families benefit from initiating the referral process as soon as possible after diagnosis.

Must a patient/family member wait for a physician or social worker referral?

No. We encourage you to initiate the process by clicking the "Refer Now" link to the left of this text and submitting the required materials.

Must a patient be terminal or dying to have their dream fulfilled?

No. Dreams of a Lifetime realizes the dreams of patients with an illness due to cancer that has placed the patient’s life in jeopardy.  Referrals are encouraged regardless of prognosis and dreams are sponsored at all stages of disease progression including diagnosis, treatment, remission, or palliation.

Does the patient’s financial status matter?

No. Financial status does not in any way affect the eligibility of a dreamer.

What if the dreamer does not want publicity?

We rely on the stories of fulfilled dreams to sustain our cause and inspire prospective dreamers.  However, we respect the dreamer's right to privacy. Publicity will never be given without permission.  If this is of concern please specify your reservations with the submission of your referral.

Won’t fulfilling a dream mean the patient is giving up?

Unfortunately, many people think we only fulfill the dreams of patients with terminal cancers.  We believe that living a dream imparts hope, encouragement, and inspiration that are crucial in enabling cancer patients to face their disease regardless of severity or stage.

Who is involved in a dream?

Most dreams involve one guest to include family members, children, significant others, or close friends. We understand a patient's illness also affects their family and social support network.  Dreams incorporating more than one guest will be granted on a case by case basis.

How long does it take to fulfill a dream?

Our goal is to fulfill all dreams within six months of the referral whenever possible.  The time required to fulfill dreams is sometimes dream dependent.  We will remain in contact with the patient, family, and physician to optimize the dreamer's experience.

Our dreamer is not yet 18 years old. Does s/he still qualify to have their dream become a reality?

Patients must be over 18 years of age to qualify.
